Starbuck, Apollo and Boomer
Remember those names? Travel back to 1978. They are names in a ripoff of the 1977 amazing original Star Wars, minus the lightsaber, TV series.
Warp through time. Now.
It is one of the best science fiction on television. Yes, I am talking about the new TV series of Battlestar Galactica.

It is a dark and gloomy universe (Your home planet and other human-colonized planets are destroyed, what do you expect?). The storyline involves politic, love, trickery and of course action. The way the story unfolded and intertwined is beautifully crafted and enjoyable to watch. It is more realistic than the 1978 version (as realistic as a science fiction goes) for example, names like “Starbuck”, “Apollo” and “Boomer” are become the pilots’ callsign instead of real names. The producer even has a blog.
The opening 2 parts mini-series DVD is already available at Amazon. Watch out for this series, this one is way much better that the ill-fated and doomed Enterprise. This one is frakin’ good.

The Phantom of the Opera
I have seen the stageplay back in London, UK, 1996. I still remember it as one of the best stageplay I’ve ever seen. So, for those who never seen “The Phantom of the Opera” on stage and want to know how it looks like or want to remember the feeling of watching it on stage, this movie is highly recommended. For those who are expecting to see a “normal movie” might be dissapointed, after all this movie is a cinematical stage, it’s like “Evita”. Afterall both are Andrew Lloyd Weber’s brainchild. The movie itself is definetely a stage. The / Read more …

Ocean's Twelve
There are movies that have great plots and storylines but the acting are terrible and there are movies that have absurd plots and storylines but the acting are amazing. This movie is the second kind. Ocean’s Twelve is the sequel of Ocean’s Eleven and still following its tradition by casting a lot of A-list actors and actresses. With that this sequel almost got everything, it also have great camera work, great scenery, funny and witty lines, smart jokes and lots of fun moments. But the plot is well, let me put it this way, the plot has a nice / Read more …

Blade: Trinity
This movie was a rollercoaster. I didn’t put too much hope in the beginning, the original Blade and Blade II are categorized as an OK entertainment flicks, but I was actually enjoyed and entertained until half of the movie and then when I began to feel that a movie was quite promising and started to get excited then things began to move to the awkward direction. This movie started with a bang. Special effects were top notch - especially the burning vampire which is the trademark of all Blade movies, the storyline was promising in the beginning and as / Read more …

Finding Neverland
Beautiful and wonderful movie. As a long time fan of Peter Pan and a believer of its “Never grow up” philosophy, I found this movie is quite inspiring. It’s amazingly crafted and bring tears to the eyes. Johnny Depp is amazing in this movie, he portrayed JM Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan, flawlessly and really get into the character. The story itself is about how JM Barrie got inspired by the Llewelyn Davies family especially one of the boys, Peter Llewelyn Davies, and created Peter Pan’s story. It told the story by flawlessly blend the reality and the / Read more …

National Treasure
If you were finding a hard time to comprehend “Davinci Code” novel by Dan Brown that this is your movie. It is about treasure hunting, some mysteries, some hints and clues, modern Indiana Jones but based on so-called “conspiracy theory”. Not much of mysteries, in fact. More likes a one big narative from one point to another without getting the viewer into a state where they will asked what is going on exactly. So linear. Not much historical insight also. The action was good, it was a fast pace adventure. It’s a decent movie but I only recommended to / Read more …

The Incredibles
This movie is deserving its own name. It is just incredible!!. The major things about this movie are fun, fun and fun. Good story telling, great animation and loveable characters. It’s entertaining, enjoyable and did I mention fun? The characters are amazing. Mr. Incredible is an typical strong superguy, bold, temperamental and daring. He is the guy that just can’t stay behind while somebody is in danger and he got a soft heart… have to admire this guy. Elastigirl is my favorite, great superpower, very flexible (hey, she can stretch her body, how flexible is that?) and a wonderful / Read more …

The Grudge
This movie is a remake of a Japanesse movie, Ju On, with the same director. This IS a horror movie. Remind me of the Ring and this movie sure scares the hell of many people. I believe this western version is already milded down for western viewer but still it scared the hell of many of its audiences (I based this prediction according to how many people are screaming while watching this movie and how many of them are saying “that WAS damn scary” after the movie was over). The story itself is quite simple, it is about a / Read more …

The Motorcycle Diaries
A movie about a motorcycle trip through Latin-America that Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara made in his youth. Although Che Guevara is famously known as a revolutionary and political icon, this movie is not about revolution or political (some political issues are there but they are not the main issue) aspect of his life. Based on a book with the same title, it is a story about two young men (Che and his friend, Alberto Granado having an adventure of a life time cruising through South America using a Norton motorcycle (not until the end of the journey but I don’t / Read more …

Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Zombies. Lots of them. Dead city (Raccoon city IS Toronto, by the way). Try to get the hell out of there. That’s the basic idea. From a popular video game to movie, Resident Evil: Apocalypse is another interpretation (We already have Tomb Raider, Street Fighter and others) and a good one I must said. After all, the game itself is about ‘shoot the zombies, collect weaponry, try to survive and get the hell out of there’. So in that term, the movie is faithful to its core. Even the portrayal of the character (Jill Valentine is perfect, Carlos Olivera / Read more …

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Love the movie! So retro (most of you know that I am into retro especially art deco era) and yet so vibrant. Feels like reading a comic book. This movie is so… retro (can’t find better word, sorry), the plane, the robot, the machinery, the costume and everything. The plot has a couple of holes tho but I really don’t mind, it is just a movie and it is entertaining! One thing I found quite annoying is the flow of the story is quite slow, if the movie was really packed in time, I think this is one blast / Read more …
