Standarized Indonesian Web Developers

Hope you all not too bored with my rants about web standards =).

After my last curiosity research, I've been doing more intensive research on a couple of Indonesian Web Developers, especially the big players.

And I am not so surprised that NONE of them, including some new so-called web developer, passed the validation test (including my office *sigh* - and it is out of my jurisdiction). In fact some of them have obsolete website... Hmm, I just wondering are they too busy developing other people website so they are forgotten their own?

It's ironic indeed... If they don't care then who will? In the middle of 'standarized movement' by some major website like Wired, ESPN, PGA, Inc. and many others, Indonesian web developers and web designers are just don't care about it. In fact some of them despise using standards for so many reasons like standards is so hard to learn (hello there! I thought the web developer are always have to learn new tricks!), standards is not compatible with old browser (hello! I thought you said that Netscape 4 user are rare in here!), no WYSIWYG software for standards (hello! I thought knowing HTML is a major requirement for a web developer) and other illogical reasons. If you or your company thinking that way, please do us, the web developer that care, a favor... step out of web developer world, become other developer instead like cd-rom presentation developer or else. Don't put more dirt and dust on the web, please...

Are there any person or company that called themselves 'Indonesian web developer" really care about this? Now I feel so lonely... *sigh*.

well, I’m not a webdesigner, I’m not a web developer, I have no clients, I just want to learn making a website… Standard? Well, if there is a standart for a healty food … standard for website? Sure! Why not?

nice rant vi, emang udah waktunya buat para “Web Developer” untuk develop website yang standard supaya bisa lebih freindly untuk semua browser ‘cuma’ kadang para web developer suka terhambat oleh tool yg digunakan.

gitu aja, anyway thanks buat ngenalin gw sama mozilla firebird…. it’s become my daily browser

hi boy,

i’m not bored with your rants on web standards. in fact, i agree with your thought and opinion on this matter. the point that i get is that designer should master his/her chosen medium. anyone who claim him/herself as web designer should view the web as a unique medium and be able to explore its unique potential.

btw, i’m not really a web developer/designer. please don’t feel so lonely… i think there are someone with similar concern with you out there :)

thanks for your encouraging comment, widi. appreciate it very much.

btw, nice work with those computational media workshop… wish I had those ideas when I was back there… =)

thomas: yes, why not? Your ‘why-not’ attitude is really cool… =)

ade: glad you found firebird… =) love it more everyday.

an: well, if you are designing for yourself then it all your decision not to follow any guides (guess, the pride of being different is something, eh?) but if you are a web developer and build the web for others and does not understand (or even care) about the standards then you should be move on into another field of work… because from my point of view, standards is not only make the better web but also make it more expandable, accessible and usable (yeah, i know you also don’t care about this, an… hehe, just to make my point).

anyway, thanks for all the encouraging comments, I really appreciate all of them.

You should write 8 reasons why web standard is important. Hehe..

If you can’t find at least 8 essential reasons, then…

:)

“…no WYSIWYG software for standards …”

well, try using “top style pro” for your css creating. it helps a lot to reduce errors or terrors ?. i haven’t try it because i don’t give a sh*t for standard. but i encourage everyone to try their best for this.

btw, most of my bbv friends are really care about this. jowie, apri, achmadbiz, aban to name a view… they’re fighting for strict xhtml as you are. you are not that alone boy… but some people had a different view about this. including me i guess. but fyi, i had this pages of “rdf site summary 1.0 guide” next to my bed… along with “practical css” i’ve printed from alistapart. :)
