TOEFL... argh!!!

I am taking TOEFL today. Yeah, I know my English sucks but I just want to know how sucky I am by taking that test... =)

Started the day with panic mode because my cab was late to pick me up at 7.30. Man, how come the cab company as good as Blue Bird can be so annoying. This kind of thing already happened before and this morning it happened again! Luckily my mother was about to go out so I went to the test place with my mom's car and I arrived just about 10 minutes before the test started... *phew*. I don't know if the cab arrived or not... Just made a small reminder that Blue Bird's cab is not so good at it was, too bad.

The test was not easy, of course!!! As you may already guess I was suck with the Structure/Writing part of the test... and for Listening and Reading, well... I can only said that those part of the test save my whole test... =)

Well, just have to wait for another 3 weeks for the result to come out. By then I and you all will know how sucky my English is...

Your post on TOEFL reminded me of the first time I took it (if I’m not mistaken, it was at some Bina Bhakti building, I forgot, somewhere in Central Jakarta).

The sleepless nights of learning the materials, the nerves of getting there ON time (instead of in time), the rush of going through all the test papers. So, yea, I could relate to your experience of taking TOEFL. I passed with flying marks… and damn! it feels great to brag on this. :D Good luck! The result will last you 5 years from now.

Where did you take the TOEFL and how much did it cost? Was it the paper-based or computer-based test? I’ve always wanted to take TOEFL. Like you, I want to see just how good I am in English (didn’t buy that bluff about wanting to know how lousy my English is…no sireee…not one bit). The language school I work for had some sort of TOEFL-y test, and the score I got for my annual tests could be converted to get a prediction of my TOEFL score. But of course, it’s a far cry different from taking the actual test… Anyhow…keep your fingers crossed :)

PS They tested your writing? Way cool!

heheh.. i took one about 3 years ago at the same place for my grad school requirement. it was fu-huun…:) didn’t do as well as i wanted too but it got me through the screening process. actually TOEFL test IS fun compare to GMAT or GRE. now these 2 are bitches! Not only they test your english skill but also math, analytical, etc. i did pretty bad on my GRE :( oh and they cost more too. anyhow….lemme know your score, mate! illyria, judging from your writing, you’ll do just FINE at TOEFL! trust me! you’re wa-aay out there with your english :)

Lina: well, to be honest, I wasn’t event learning any material… well, yeah, I’ve read a couple of stuff from the internet but that’s all. nothing more, no sleepless night and I wasn’t on the rush… just taking the test like filling some online quiz… the reason? well, I want to take it as it is and I don’t have time to study because of my workload… =(

noel: blom tau.. harus wait 3 weeks.. blargh!!

Illyria: at IIEF, Menara Imperium, Kuningan 28th Floor. It cost $110 (drained some of my savings, oh well) and it was computer-based test. Well you can get more info on http://www.toefl.org or http://www.iief.or.id. Good luck if you want to try.

oh man, your post reminds me that i still have to study for GRE! it’s so hard! i keep falling asleep in the first half an hour that i try to memorize those ridiculous, never-heard-it-in-my-entire-life vocabs! i always wonder what purpose exactly these standardized testings serve, other than just to make money!

loh… koq jadi curhat gini sih gue :P

noel @ May 29, 2003 10:22 AM

i’m with you, sista…i’m with you :). The GRE vocab section sucks big time! ask your american friends those words, i bet none of ‘em knows what they mean!…i actually guessed (yes, i counted my shirt’s buttons, did that cap cip cup kembang kuncup thang…u name it….)ALL of my answers on this specific section…oh well

avianto @ May 29, 2003 10:42 AM

TOEFL, GRE, GMAT… wonder how IELTS is look like, according to my friend IELTS has an ‘interview’ test… well, I think the Anglo Saxon knows better =)

So does anyone know which score is considered good for computer-based Toefl? I just passed it and I would like to know what you guys think! hei
Thanks
